It’s the largest collection of literature in the world. And, if you’re an American citizen, it belongs to you. Your tax dollars paid for it.
It’s the Library of Congress, and its site is today’s FamilyFirst pick.
Where do you begin in the world’s largest library? Don’t worry, they make it easy for you.
You might begin with the Wise Guide. It’s a small compilation of articles. At presstime, they included articles on how high armadillos can jump, the Boston Tea Party, and America’s original mother against drunk driving, Carrie Nation.


Check out the American History section. Clicking on Touring America takes you to a photo collection of life at the turn of the twentieth century. Clicking on the Photo Highlights Gallery sends you to a bunch of old photographs sorted by subject.
Architecture shows some familiar buildings seen through the lenses of cameras circa 1900. New York’s Flatiron Building was an impressive sight against a virtually empty skyline.
Recreation takes you to Atlantic City, where you could loop the loop on a scary looking roller coaster.
There is a huge volume of information at the Library of Congress, and it is well represented online. Now go learn something!
